About Us
Story of Mango Moon Stitches:
Growing up, I was raised in a loving home by a single mother of 4. My mom worked hard to keep food on the table and a roof over our head after our father abandoned us. The main thing that my mother taught us is to value what’s been given to you.
My mom taught me to sew when I was young, elementary school young. She would always make me clothes. I remember some of my favorite times growing up was when my mom was off of work and she would take me to the local fabric store and I could choose a pattern I liked and go through hundreds of bolts of fabric to pick exactly what I wanted. The texture, the pattern, the colors and even the thread!
The knowledge my mom gave me at such a young age transpired to my love of sewing as I got older. I took four years of sewing in high school and was even offered a scholarship to go to a local art institute for fashion design. I did not pursue this career as I knew my love of sewing was a hobby and not something I wanted to make my career at that time in my life.
Fast forward to 2020, COVID happened, we relocated to Arkansas for family reasons and I had all the time on my hands. My new husband and I had been trying to get pregnant for years and my constant nesting and desire to collect anything baby related grew to my obsession with cloth diapers. I had attempted cloth diapering with my first two children in 2010 and 2014 but their father was against it. Also there wasn’t many options, all I can remember was that Charlie Banana was available in a box set in Target.
After a lot of research and spiraling into this rabbit hole of cloth diapers, I came across preflats and contour diapers. I’ve always had a sewing machine and my mom had a serger. I then designed my own fastener-less wraparound looped winged preflat. What a mouthful! I knew I wanted to move forward with this creation but did not have the space where we were currently living to be able to start such a business. That’s when Mango Moon Stitches came to life.
I spent almost a year researching cloth diapers and companies, the market, overseas manufacturers and their ethics. I dived deep into the world of fabric, compliance and sustainability. I knew then that this is when my love for sewing would finally become my career instead of just a hobby. The beginning of 2022 marked my legal and official launch for business.
I began to soon notice that a lot of these small businesses had the same features. There was nothing new.. just a slightly different shape, different exterior pattern, different material. There was only a select few companies that went above and beyond to create, market and offer something that no one else could offer. I needed to be different. I needed to use the creativity that I pushed back for so long and come up with something innovative that would help push this industry towards the right path on becoming more socially accepted. That’s when I designed and tested my Patent Pending: Floating Gusset™️ Cloth Diaper. I originally had no intent on applying for a patent. But my mom was always there as the little voice in my head (and in front of my face) reminding me how hard she worked to create a life for us as a single mother and immigrant from the Philippines. She reminded me that I worked hard to create my own design and deserve to have that validity as an up and coming business to a world that hadn’t had much change. This diaper is just the beginning. There is such a stigma about removing poop from something that is reusable, so I created a design where there is a layer of fabric that essentially catches the mess first and offers new ways at cleaning and using a cloth diaper. From only having to spray that one layer off to making it easier for my large handed husband to put an insert into the diaper. My goal is to create more innovative ways to cloth diaper and make it mainstream.
As of August 2023 we are offering manufactured cloth diapers and inserts, but will soon open up to adding homemade products. I plan on adding back my original preflat design along with contour diaper options. We also are relocating back to Las Vegas, NV before summer of ‘24. I love what I do and hope to have a storefront in Las Vegas within the next 2 years.
